Baker Mayfield said last week he felt “disrespected” by the Cleveland Browns after they traded for Deshaun Watson, effectively ending Mayfield’s tenure after four seasons as the team’s starting quarterback.
“One hundred percent,” Mayfield said on the “YNK” podcast released last Wednesday. “I was told one thing and they completely did another.”
On Friday, Browns’ general manager Andrew Berry not only responded but rejected his claims.
“We were very transparent with his reps,’’ Berry said during his pre-draft press conference, per Cleveland insider Mary Kay Cabot. “We can all understand how Baker feels… Baker is a competitive and driven young man, he’s had success as a quarterback and will continue to have success as a quarterback.”
Berry declined to discuss current trade prospects for the former No. 1 overall pick.
“Quite honestly, my focus has been on the draft next week,’’ Berry said. “I’ll shift my focus after that.’’

The Browns claim that they told Mayfield he would likely be the team’s starter, but things changed once reports came out that he would demand a trade after they failed to secure Watson the first time around.
We shall know much closer to the draft if a team will be willing to part ways with assets to acquire Mayfield.
