The Cleveland Browns have offered an explanation for Deshawn Watson’s absence from the sideline during their recent game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Watson earned himself some serious criticism after being shown in a suit looking all dapper while wearing an arm sling. Fans compared him to his Cincinnati Bengals counterpart Joe Burrow, who was in the thick of things with his teammates as he cheered from the sidelines.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com has revealed being told by a team spokesperson that the Browns didn’t want to risk the quarterback getting involved in a sideline collision, which is why he was kept in a suite.
It’s also worth noting that the QB wasn’t the only one in said suite, with the team claiming that all of the players on the injured reserve were there as well. And, given that a sideline official suffered a gruesome injury after Alvin Kamara bowled into him during Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, they will feel their decision was warranted.
Watson has been out of action since appearing against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 12. The QB underwent a shoulder operation a few weeks back but hopes to be ready for the start of 2024.
He passed for 1,115 yards, seven touchdowns, and four interceptions in six games for the Browns this season.
