Walter Andrew Brister IV, the 21-year-old son of former NFL quarterback Walter Andrew “Bubby” Brister III, has been arrested following a fatal hit-and-run this month.
The hit-and-run incident took place in Baton Rouge near LSU. He reportedly struck a pedestrian on Saturday and turned himself in on Wednesday.
Following the incident, Brister’s representative John McLindon said that he spoke with East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore about surrendering to the authorities.
“I was on the phone with Hillar Moore Sunday,” McLindon said, via The Advocate. “I said we’re not running, we’re not hiding, we want to self-surrender. He put me in touch with BRPD… The police officers were very professional about how they handled the whole thing.”
Brister, a college football player, was booked on a charge of felony hit-and-run. The 44-year-old Jarreau is said to have been attempting to cross Ben Hur Road when he was hit by an SUV. Jarreau died at the scene.
McLindon says his client and family are heartbroken about what happened. “I’ve spent a lot of time with the Brister family and that’s been very emotional,” McLindon said. “Their thoughts and prayers go out to the Jarreau family. We all feel terrible about this. It’s a very tragic situation.”
