The Denver Broncos are willing to meet the New Orleans’ Saints asking price to potentially land Sean Payton.
Last year, Payton announced his resignation after 16 seasons as New Orleans’ head coach. But the Super Bowl 44 winning head coach is widely expected to return to the sidelines for 2023, and the Broncos apparently have him high on their wish list.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Broncos are aware of the Saints’ asking price for Payton, which reportedly consists of a first-round draft choice “and more.” The good news for Bronco fans hoping to see Payton come to the Mile High City? The team is willing to meet that price.
Payton remains under contract with the Saints organization, so the team stands to land strong compensation from the club that hires him. Aside from the Broncos, the Indianapolis Colts will also have an opening after firing Frank Reich mid-season and replacing him with Jeff Saturday.
Other teams that could be in the market for a new coach include the disappointing Arizona Cardinals, the Carolina Panthers (coached by interim Steve Wilks, who replaced Matt Rhule in October), the Houston Texans (the worst team in football) and the Los Angeles Rams, as Sean McVay is reportedly mulling over his future as a head coach.
