The Denver Broncos were a dumpster fire in 2022 after they traded for Russell Wilson. It was also the first year under head coach Nathaniel Hackett. The team finished the year 5-12 and the head coach couldn’t even make it to the end of his first campaign. Russell Wilson got traded to the team and never showed anything on the field that stated he deserved to get a brand-new contract.
The team did come together on one move.
Towards the end of the season, the team would fire offensive line coach Butch Barry.
According to a report from Orlando Alzugaray, players on the Broncos erupted in applause when the front office decided to part ways with him.
“He’s an idiot,” a Broncos insider added. “Got fired mid-season for incompetence.”
There were players on the Broncos who reportedly “hated” Barry and “openly laughed” at him.

Benjamin Allbright of KOA Colorado gave more insight on things that went on behind the scenes in Denver.
“His style of offering criticisms without correction didn’t go over well here,” Allbright said. “Left notes in lockers instead of in-person communication. Multiple players here suggested he didn’t seem to know what he was doing.”
As you can see, it clearly wasn’t just Nathaniel Hackett being bad at his job, but a collection of things on the coaching staff that doomd the team before the season would even start. For Barry, he has since been hired by the Miami Dolphins.
The Broncos front office can only hope things turn around in 2023 after they went out and traded for head coach Sean Payton.
