Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and defensive tackle Mike Purcell downplayed what looked like a heated sideline confrontation on Sunday.
In the fourth quarter of the Broncos’ Week 12 road game against the Carolina Panthers, cameras caught a furious Purcell seemingly cussing out Wilson on the sidelines.
Speaking to reporters after the game, however, both Wilson and Purcell explained that the argument wasn’t as heated as it looked. per Brandon Krisztal of KOA Colorado.
“I loved it,” Wilson said. “He came off real pissed off, said ‘let’s f-in go!’ Me and him are on the same page.”
Purcell stated, “we just need a spark, just trying to get a spark…it comes from a place of love.”

The Broncos entered this game with a 3-7 record, but they were playing a struggling Carolina team that played Sam Darnold, who was starting his first game of the 2022 season. The pieces were there for Denver to end its losing skid, but a sputtering offense once held them back.
Wilson completed just 19 of 35 pass attempts for 142 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. Even though the Denver ground game racked up 121 yards on just 19 carries, the offense could only muster 10 points in a 23-10 defeat.
The Broncos have now lost three straight and seven of their last eight since starting 2-1 on the season. They’ll have to win out just to finish with a winning season, but that’s a practically impossible task now. And even then, that probably wouldn’t be enough to make the playoffs in a crowded AFC.
