Just when you think Jim Harbaugh is safe and sound back in college, it looks as if he may be headed back to the NFL.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Saturday that Broncos owner Greg Penner and Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh met last week in Ann Arbor to discuss the team’s head coaching job. The report added a deal still did not materialize.
It was just a few weeks ago when Harbaugh announced that he was staying at Michigan. That did not stop the Broncos front office from meeting him and possibly ironing out a deal at a later date.
According to Schefter, Denver has “moved on” and is continuing their discussions with several other candidates for their head coaching position.
The 59-year-old was hired by the 49ers as their head coach in 2007. He was fired in 2014 and hired as head coach at Michigan. During his four years with the 49ers, he led them to a record of 44-19-1 which included three playoff appearances and an NFC Championship.
In college, he has led Michigan to a record of 74-25 which includes a 1-6 record in bowl games and two trips to the College Football Playoff.
