The Denver Broncos have made a surprising cut in the wake of their embarrassing loss to the New England Patriots.
The Broncos went ahead 7-0 in the Christmas Eve affair before surrendering 23 straight points. They rallied back in the fourth to tie the contest but allowed a late drive that ended a Patriots game-winning field goal.
They have since opted to waive one of their captains, Kareem Jackson, though the safety is expected to be brought back to the practice squad for the rest of the season once he clears waivers.
“#Broncos are indeed releasing veteran S Kareem Jackson today,” Broncos reporter Parker Gabriel reported. “Assuming he clears waivers, plan is to bring him back to the practice squad for the final two weeks. Sounds like it’s been an ongoing conversation in recent days.”
It appeared that Denver would sneak into the playoffs after their rocky start, having won five consecutive games to get to 6-5. However, they have lost three out of their last four ahead of their divisional clash vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, with their postseason hopes all but gone.
