The Denver Broncos could be looking to make a trade in order to regain some draft picks after giving up several in exchange for Sean Payton.
The Broncos won’t be going on the board until No.67 comes up in this year’s draft, and Payton just might work to change that ahead of the selection period.
Benjamin Allbright, a team insider at KOA 850 AM, agrees that the team could look to trade a “big name” player so they can move up in the draft, though he could not say who that might be. The Broncos mean to return to the big time after hiring Payton on the back of Russell Wilson’s so-far unsuccessful stint in Denver, so moves could be afoot.
Wilson is not going anywhere just yet but the likes of safety Justin Simmons, cornerback Patrick Surtain II, and wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton could be on a list of possibilities as it pertains to a trade. Left tackle Garrett Bolles had been the subject of speculation which has since been debunked, per KMGH-TV’s Troy Renck, so he’s unlikely to be made available.
The Broncos dealt their first and second-round 2023 picks for Payton and, if Allbright is to be believed, they’re probably keen on getting back into the first round. It would be up to other teams to decide whether it’s worth giving up a first-round pick in exchange for whoever Denver might be looking to trade, however.
