No reigning NFL MVP has ever been traded the next season, but that could soon change as the NFL Draft rages on.
Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers wants out and a viiral rumor would soon surface that he was claose to being sent to the Denver Broncos. The trade is “as close to a done deal as it can get,” NFL analyst Mark Schlereth said on 104.3 The Fan.
After the first round was over, Denver general manager George Paton spoke to the media about the team’s draft selection and the rumor of them going after Aaron Rodgers.
“Drew (Lock)’s been working hard every day,” Paton said, via ProFootballTalk. “Teddy (Bridgewater)’s going to bring some experience to the room, some leadership. So we’re really excited for both quarterbacks. We’re always looking at every position and quarterback’s another one, but we like the two we have.”
NFL.com columnist Michael Silver reported Broncos general manager George Paton did look into the possibility of acquiring Rodgers.
“Paton, who the previous morning had sent a sixth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers to acquire Bridgewater … reasoned that the Packers’ asking price would be steep,” Silver wrote. “With teams like the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears eager to move up, there was potential for Paton to use such a swap to stockpile premium 2022 picks that could be part of a trade package.
“At the very least, he felt compelled to do his due diligence. The only question was, would the Packers play ball? When a third party made it clear to him that his Green Bay counterpart, Brian Gutekunst, had no desire to entertain such a conversation, Paton quickly abandoned the speculative scenario and pivoted back into draft mode.”

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst told reporters that it’s the intention of the team to have Rodgers at quarterback this season.
Rodgers led the Packers to an NFC-best 13-3 record last season and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. However, they would lose to eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Championship game at Lambeau Field.
