Well, you can’t say that Denver Broncos offensive lineman Garett Bolles lacks effort.
Broncos running back Melvin Gordon coughed up the football in the second quarter during the team’s Week 4 road game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The ball was scooped up by Vegas cornerback Amik Robertson and returned to the end zone for six.
Bolles attempted to prevent Robertson from finding the end zone, but the veteran 6-foot-5 offensive lineman didn’t stand a chance. Nonetheless, he did a Superman-like dive and tried to catch Robertson…but Bolles wasn’t even close.
As you could guess, Twitter had a field day roasting Bolles.

Of course, Bolles deserves credit for refusing to give up on the play. And as an offensive lineman, his primary job is to block for the quarterback and running back, and not to outrun defensive backs in the open field.
On the bright side, the Broncos responded with a touchdown drive of their own, with Russell Wilson finding Jerry Jeudy on a 20-yard pass for six.
On another note, the fumble continues to be a concerning trend for Denver’s standout running back. It marked Gordon’s fourth fumble in as many games during the young 2022 season.
Many have been calling for the Broncos to use the younger and more explosive Javonte Williams as the primary running back, but head coach Nathaniel Hackett has decided to continue with the two-back system.
Perhaps Gordon’s latest lost fumble will prompt the Broncos into giving Williams a heavier workload going forward. But Bolles certainly doesn’t have to worry about his job security, especially if he’s going to give it his everything — even on a play that doesn’t stand a chance.
The Raiders came into this game at 0-3 on the year, while the Broncos are looking to improve their record to 3-1. Las Vegas led 19-16 at halftime in a mistake-filled (and comedic) AFC West showdown.
