On an emotional day, Broncos set season high in points and made one final tribute to Demaryius Thomas in a way that had not expected. Thomas died Thursday night in his Georgia home due to a medical issue. His passing shook the entire football world.
Against this backdrop, the Broncos played Sunday in his honor, defeating the Lions 38-10 at Empower Field at Mile High.
The Broncos lined up with 10 men on their first play and took an intentional delay of game penalty, which the Lions declined. An enormous No. 88 flashed on the Jumbotron.
During the Broncos’ final drive, the team drove the ball 88 yards down the field to clinch the victory, per ESPN. As you know, that is Thomas’ jersey number.
“That’s crazy. That’s crazy,” said Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton in utter disbelief.
Tim Patrick also reacted to the 88-yard drive, claiming “he’s always going to be there [for us]. I think he’s going to be there more in life … yeah, he probably was out there with us.”
