The National Football League might have optimism that the 2020 season will be played, however, Kareem Jackson does not share those same feelings.
The Denver Broncos defensive back is not a fan of players having to play football until it is 100% safe to play amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I just think for us, it doesn’t make sense to play any games unless it’s completely, 100 percent safe for us to go out there,” Jackson said in a conference call with beat reporters, via Nicki Jhabvala of TheAthletic.com. “If there’s any threat of us being able to [contract] COVID-19 in any way and spread it to our families or anybody we’re around, it just doesn’t make sense. I think I heard them saying something about us playing with no fans and all that. That would be like practice, so in my opinion, that would suck. But just talking with some of the guys, it just doesn’t make sense to go play any games unless it’s 100 percent safe for us to go out there.”
You can’t really blame Jackson for being worried given what has transpired in recent months with the global pandemic.
Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL is still set to release the NFL schedule on Thursday with no changes to it besides not having any international games in 2020 for obvious reasons.
The games might be played, but there certainly won’t be 60,000+ fans in stadiums anytime soon cheering on their favorite teams.
