The last thing that the San Francisco 49ers need right now is another injured quarterback.
They received a bit of a scare during today’s 35-7 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as their third starter of the season, Brock Purdy, suffered what is being described as an “oblique injury.”
Purdy left the game in the fourth quarter and made way for the newly acquired Josh Johnson.
After the contest, the 2022 seventh-round draft pick provided an update on his condition, telling the media that he was just “a little tight” and that he could have remained in the game if it was still close.
That’s great news for the Niners, who have already lost Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo for the season. It hasn’t been all that bad for the 49ers, though, as they’ve looked just as dangerous with Purdy under center.
Since coming in to relieve the injured Garoppolo last week, Purdy has thrown for four touchdowns and just one interception, while punching in another score on the ground. He has now led San Fran to back-to-back dominant victories, with the offense scoring over 30 points each time.
