Practice has reportedly been a struggle for San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Brock Purdy.
Earlier this week, 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear that the second-year signal-caller will remain San Francisco’s starting quarterback over Sam Darnold and 2021 third overall pick Trey Lance as long as he doesn’t “melt in practice.”
Well, it turns out that Purdy is actually struggling a good amount in practice, as David Lombardi of The Athletic reports that the 23-year-old has thrown a whopping 10 interceptions in 49ers’ training camp.
Via Grant Cohn of All49ers on FanNation, Purdy threw three interceptions in last week’s joint practice against the Las Vegas Raiders.

It’s important to remember that Purdy is working his way back from surgery on a torn UCL that he suffered in the NFC Championship Game seven months ago. It may take a week or two (possibly longer) for Purdy to fully get back in his normal rhythm, and it shouldn’t be a giant concern unless his struggles carry over in the meaningful games.
The 2022 “Mr. Irrelevant” won all five regular season starts last season and led the 49ers to the NFC title game. If he didn’t get injured in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, perhaps the 49ers would be the club defending the Super Bowl this year.
The 49ers will host the Denver Broncos this Sunday before wrapping up preseason play with a home contest against the Los Angeles Chargers on Aug. 25. Their 2023 regular season will commence with a road game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 10.
