On Saturday, an independent doctor cleared San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy to play in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. It turns out that the decision was not a good one.
One week after suffering a concussion, 49ers QB Brock Purdy banged his head against the turf again on Sunday and nobody seemed to take notice. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback wasn’t removed from the game.
Purdy took a hit from Bengals defender Trey Hendrickson late in the fourth quarter of San Francisco’s loss. The video below shows his head violently slamming against the turf and him grabbing his helmet afterward.
It’s become increasingly difficult for players to enter the league’s concussion protocol, get cleared, and play again the following week which is why it was shocking that Purdy cleared it so quickly.
If the 49ers find Purdy suffered his second concussion in as many weeks on Sunday, he could be forced to sit out multiple games because of their negligence.
The 49ers are reeling as they have now lost three games in a row after starting the year at 5-0.

If Purdy misses time, backup Sam Darnold will start for San Francisco.
