Here’s one that will give you the feels on a Sunday afternoon.
The 2022 Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, was making his first career start today, as his San Francisco 49ers hosted Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That alone made today an incredible moment for the Purdy family, but it gets even better for the last pick of the draft.
Through the first half of the game, Purdy has out-dueled the greatest player in NFL history by a pretty good margin. In addition to throwing touchdown passes to Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, Purdy also ran one in himself.
And the moment was so amazing, that it actually left Purdy’s dad in tears.
Shawn Purdy has every right to cry here. It’s been a incredible journey for his son. Being a seventh-round quarterback, there was no guarantee that Purdy would even get to see a regular season snap at any point in his NFL career…
And yet, here he is, starting as a rookie for a legit Super Bowl contender. You can’t make this stuff up.
