Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, have a compelling NFL-related name for their dog, the latter revealed in a new interview.
Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes, who is frequently seen at Kansas City games at Arrowhead Stadium, are high school sweethearts who married in 2022. The couple has a daughter and a son.
During an interview with People, Brittany revealed that the name of one of their dogs was inspired by a rival NFL team. Brittany grew up cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Patrick surprised her with a dog named Steel as a Valentine’s Day gift back in college:
“I actually got Steel when I was in college. Patrick bought him for me for a Valentine’s Day gift when I was a junior. So, I actually used to be a Steelers fan and that’s how I got the name Steel, so that’s a great story.”
Their other dog, Silver, was adopted a couple of years after Steel joined the family. Silver is presumably not named after the Chiefs’ AFC West rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, whose main colors are silver and black.

Patrick Mahomes turned heads in Week 2 of the 2018 season (his first year as the club’s starting quarterback) when he lit up the Pittsburgh Steelers with six TD passes in a 42-37 victory at Heinz Field.
Mahomes went on to win the first MVP Award of his career, with the Chiefs advancing all the way to the AFC Championship Game. That would be the first of six straight (and counting) AFC title game appearances for KC, who achieved dynasty status by defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl 58.
Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Open 2024 vs. Ravens
The Kansas City Chiefs will be challenged early in the Sept. 5 NFL Kickoff Game, when they host reigning MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium.
Patrick Mahomes is 4-1 in his career against the Ravens (including last season’s AFC Championship Game victory), although four of those matchups have been decided by a single score.
If there’s an AFC team capable of spoiling the night the Chiefs hang up a second banner at Arrowhead, it’s the Ravens. It should be another dandy of a showdown between the league’s last two MVP winners.
