During the entire 2021 season, Brittany Matthews seemingly got blasted for something she did or said almost weekly.
On Wednesday, the Chiefs quarterback watched his alma mater, Texas Tech, defeat Baylor during a casual date night with Matthews. During the game, the cameras panned to the couple with the footage making it to the internet.
Matthews, who has been a recent target of criticism, became a talking point on Twitter amongst some fans who tried to lip read what was going on as Mahomes could be seen taking his arm away from her shoulder and her looking annoyed.
“Poor Patrick. Have to feel for the guy,” the viral tweet reads as it is clearly referencing that the Chiefs QB is going through something with Brittany Matthews.
“Man people are weird… love you babe,” Mahomes tweeted, tagging Matthews’ Twitter handle.
Matthews returned the message with a simple “I love you,” accompanied by a couple of emojis.

Mahomes and Matthews have been dating since they were in high school. The pair got engaged in September 2020 and will wed sometime this year.
They are also parents to an 11-month-old daughter, Sterling Skye.
