Coming into this weekend, the Miami Dolphins had won five straight games.
Miami’s rookie quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, was starting to look more comfortable in his starting position. Both of those things came to an end on Sunday as the team lost the game, and Tua found himself on the bench during the game.
Miami coach Brian Flores benched Tagovailoa for veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick after he was sacked for the sixth time.
Flores spoke to reporters after the game and confirmed he had been benched and not because of an injury. However, Tua would be given his job back for next week.
“Tua wasn’t injured,” Flores said. “We just felt like it was the best move at that point in the game. … We just felt like [Fitzpatrick] gave us the best chance in the 2-minute drill.”
