A massive trade proposal has the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs getting even deeper with the acquisition of a top-tier pass-rusher.
The Chiefs have won back-to-back games following a stunning Week 1 home loss to the Detroit Lions. The defense has been a key reason why, allowing just 19 total points over their last two contests.
With Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Chris Jones still in their primes, the Chiefs remain in win-now mode. And an enticing trade proposal has this team getting even more prolific with the addition of Brian Burns.
Vincent Frank of SportsNaut recently listed the top players who could be available leading up to the trade deadline. Frank listed Carolina’s star pass-rusher and mentioned Kansas City as a potential landing spot:
“Noticing a theme here? A majority of players mentioned on the block ahead of the NFL trade deadline are impending free agents with questionable futures on their current teams. Burns is one of the most obvious examples of this. The 25-year-old two-time Pro Bowler wanted a new contract ahead of the 2023 campaign after recording 21.5 sacks over the previous two seasons. He’s looking for between $26-28 million annually. The Panthers might not want to pay that up. Clearly one of the best pass rushers in today’s NFL, the market for Burns will not be limited.”

Burns would unquestionably fit nicely in Kansas City’s aggressive, blitz-happy defense led by defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. The aforementioned Jones is one of the game’s best pass-rushers, and adding Burns would make the defending champions even more dangerous.
The No. 16 selection of the 2019 NFL Draft has recorded at least 7.5 sacks every year since his rookie campaign, including a career-best 12.5 last season. Burns is in his contract year, so if the Panthers don’t feel confident about their chances of signing him long-term, the Florida State product should definitely be shopped leading up to the deadline.
