The Los Angeles Rams have made a cut this Tuesday that shouldn’t have come as a surprise to the player in question, nor their fans.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Rams have decided to let kicker Brett Maher go and will have someone else doing his job when they face the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Maher was probably looking forward to playing the Cowboys after opting not to re-sign with them at the end of last season. But he put in an awful performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the weekend that left the Rams with little other choice.
The 33-year-old blew two field goals and an extra point attempt during the Week 7 showdown and will be in search of a new home in the wake of the costly misses.
Maher made 90.6 percent of his attempts for the Cowboys last season before crashing and burning in the playoffs, missing four of five extra-point attempts during their Wild Card win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“We’ll look at it, and we’ll see,” Rams head coach McVay said after Sunday’s loss. “He’s got to be better. That’s seven points that were missed out on, that were key and critical for the momentum of the game and the type of game that it was. Those were tough ones, today.”

There was nothing on who will be coming in as Maher’s replacement at the time of writing.
