It finally happened.
After getting blown out by the New England Patriots at home on Sunday, the Washington Redskins wasted no time in announcing the firing of head coach Jay Gruden on Monday morning.
The team released the following statement: Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility. Moving forward we are committed to doing all that we can collectively as an organization to turn things around and give our Redskins fans and alumni a team they can be proud of in 2019 and beyond.
Redskins OL coach Bill Callahan will take over as the interim head coach for the rest of the season, per Ian Rapoport.
During his five seasons with the Redskins, the 52-year-old led them to a record of 35-49-1, which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.
