Aldon Smith is back on the market.
Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Seahawks are releasing the veteran defensive end.
Smith signed a one-year contract with the Seahawks this past April.
In that same month, a man accused him of assault, saying that Smith choked him unconscious after he and at least one other man punched and slapped him in a dispute surrounding the victim’s marriage to a relative of Smith’s.
According to the report, the responding deputy said he noticed abrasions to the face of the victim and ligature marks on the left and right sides of his neck.
Smith eventually surrendered to authorities and was booked and released.
