It appears as though Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis is getting close to choosing the franchise’s next head coach.
Per CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, the agent of interim head coach Antonio Pierce was spotted in the Raiders’ team facility earlier this morning. This is a strong indicator that Pierce and the Raiders are close to an agreement that will make him the next head coach.
The 45-year-old Pierce joined the Raiders’ coaching staff in 2022, serving as a linebackers coach. He was promoted to head coach after Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler were fired, leading the Raiders to an encouraging 5-4 finish under his watch.
Davis made a mistake two years ago by not retaining interim HC Rich Bisaccia, who led the Raiders to the postseason in 2021 following Jon Gruden’s resignation. The McDaniels hiring turned out to be a failure, so Davis may feel inclined to avoid the same mistake by giving his interim HC the full-time head coaching position.
Before his coaching career, Pierce was a standout NFL linebacker who helped the New York Giants to a Super Bowl 42 championship in the 2007 season.
