Trent Williams was clearly serious when he stated he wouldn’t play for the Washington Redskins organization in 2019.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Redskins left tackle did not report to the team on Wednesday, which means he won’t be playing in their season opener on Sunday.
The 31-year-old left tackle previously said there was “zero chance I’ll be in that building” for Week 1, which followed comments by Redskins GM Bruce Allen who stated he expected Williams to play for the team this season.
Williams had demanded a trade or release earlier this offseason, along with vowing to never play for Washington again, but the team has stood tall on not seeking a trade partner for him.
The former first-round pick is currently in the fourth year of his five-year, $66 million contract that includes $43.25 million guaranteed.
