The Las Vegas Raiders are stealing the spotlight on third day of free agency (and the first official day of the new league year).
The first big move out of Sin City sees the Raiders sign star pass-rusher Chandler Jones. Details regarding the deal are still murky, but it’s believed that the former Arizona Cardinal will earn something in the area of $17-million per season, according to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
As a result of that big signing, the Raiders clearly felt that one of the pass-rushers that was already on their roster was suddenly expendable. So they went out and flipped defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to the Indianapolis Colts for cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.
While Ngakoue is the younger of the two pass-rushing studs, Chandler Jones has clearly been the more effective one when it comes to getting after the quarterback. The 32-year-old Jones has put up double-digit sacks in seven of his ten NFL seasons — including six of his last seven season, with 2020 being the only exception after he recorded just one sack in five games before suffering a season-ending injury.

As for Ngakoue, he be just 27-years-old when the 2022 season begins, but he also has just two double-digit sack seasons in his first six years, with a season-high of 12 — compared to Jones’ 19.
It’s fair to say that the Raiders may have sacrificed youth for talent at the position. Will it pay off? We’ll know better one year from now.
