Pete Carroll’s son, Nathan, is joining the coaching staff of one of the Seattle Seahawks’ NFC rivals.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Nathan Carroll is heading to Carolina to serve as the Panthers’ passing game coordinator. Carroll previously worked with new Panthers HC Dave Canales and GM Dan Morgan in Seattle.
The 36-year-old Nathan was a Seahawks assistant coach under Pete from 2011 to 2023. He spent his first two seasons as a defensive assistant before moving to the offensive side of the ball in the 2013 season, the year Seattle went on to win its first Super Bowl championship.
Carroll was Seattle’s wide receivers coach from 2018 to 2021 before spending the next two years as a senior offensive assistant.
The Seahawks reassigned the elder Carroll to an advisory role after the 2023 season, though he admitted in his press conference that it wasn’t his decision. Former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was subsequently named the new Seahawks’ defensive coordinator.
The Panthers hired Canales for their head coaching position following his success as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator. Canales helped Baker Mayfield turn in a career year which led Tampa to the NFC South division crown.
