The New England Patriots appear to be close to hiring a former NFL head coach to join the new staff lead by Jerod Mayo.
According to a report from Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, New England is “in talks to” hire former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo. Breer noted that McAdoo would “likely” be an assistant head coach working with new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
The 46-year-old McAdoo most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2022. After two seasons as the Giants’ OC (2014 to 2015), McAdoo was promoted to New York’s head coaching position in 2016.
McAdoo held the role for less than years, compiling a 13-15 record before getting fired late in the 2017 season. McAdoo was on staff for the Green Bay Packers squad that won Super Bowl 45 in the 2010 season, serving as the club’s tight ends coach.
The Patriots hired Mayo as their new head coach last month following Bill Belichick’s departure after 24 years at the helm.
