With the Chiefs locked in as the AFC’s No. 3 seed, head coach Andy Reid plans on resting some of the team’s key starters in the final week of the regular season.
In his absence, quarterback Blaine Gabbert will get the start against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Gabbert has appeared in one game this season and has thrown for 31 yards with two interceptions. In his career, going back to 2011, he has 9,333 passing yards, 51 touchdowns and 49 interceptions.
Last week, Kansas City finally brought an end to a difficult December as they locked up the AFC West title with a 25-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The team went 2-3 in the month.
Heading into the matchup, the Chargers stand at 5–11 while the Chiefs are 10–6.

Mahomes will finish the season with 4,183 passing yards while completing a career-high 67.2% of his passes with 27 TDs to 14 interceptions.
