The Carolina Panthers decided not to wait until the end of the season to evaluate their coaching staff. Following Sunday’s embarrassing home loss to the Washington Redskins, the front office decided it was time for a change. And today, the team announced that they had fired head coach Ron Rivera.
The Panthers are currently 5-7 on the season, three games out of the final wild card spot. Rivera went 79-63-1 in his nine seasons with Carolina. And he was 3-4 in 4 playoff appearances, including one Super Bowl appearance in 2015.
Panthers secondary coach Perry Fewell has been named the Panthers’ interim head coach.
