Right now, the game doesn’t matter. All that really matters is the health and well-being of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.
That appears to be the sentiment that the NFL is standing by, as NFL V.P. of Football Operations Troy Vincent told reporters during a conference call that they have not made a decision on how to handle the resumption of the game. At the moment, he claims that “Hamlin’s health is the only immediate concern.”
Vincent also revealed that the Buffalo Bills will return to Orchard Park for the time being. The team has since departed from Paycor Stadium and are expected to fly out of Cincinnati tonight.
The game between the Bills and Bengals came with a ton of implications as both teams are fighting for the coveted top spot in the AFC, which would provide whoever gets it with a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
But right now, none of that matters. Instead, everyone’s focus is on Hamlin. Once his status becomes stable, it’s expected that the league will make a decision on how to proceed with this situation.
We continue to send out thoughts and prayers to Hamlin and his family as he remains in critical condition at the UC medical center.
