The Calvin Ridley saga has taken another turn, and I don’t think its one that anyone saw coming.
The NFL has announced that they have suspended the Atlanta Falcons wideout for betting on games. The suspension was handed down today, and it will keep the former Alabama Crimson Tide star out of action for the entire 2022 season.
According to a statement for the league, the betting took place during November of the 2021 season, while Ridley was away from the team due to mental health issues.
The statement also claims that the league’s investigation into the matter found that there was no insider information used and no games were compromised. There is also no evidence showing that any of the coaches, staff or teammates were aware of his wagers.

What is not stated is whether or not Ridley was placing wagers on Falcons games while he was away from the team.
The bets were said to have been placed within a five-day period. Ridley’s suspension is an indefinite one that will last for at least the duration of the 2022 season.
In 2021, Ridley shocked the NFL world when he announced that he’d be stepping away from the game to deal with his mental health in late October. He remained out for the duration of the season, and has since been the subject of numerous trade rumors.
Looks like we can put those rumors to bed for at least another year following his suspension.
