The New York Jets just made a massive splash that will make star quarterback Aaron Rodgers a very happy man.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl offensive tackle and future Hall of Famer Tyron Smith is signing with the Jets, giving the four-time league MVP a new blindside protector.
It’s a one-year deal worth up to $20 million, Schefter added.
The Cowboys decided not to bring back Smith following a tremendous 13-year tenure that will place him in Canton in his first year of eligibility. On the third day of the new league year, Smith finally landed a deal with a Super Bowl contending team.
The Smith arrival comes soon after the Jets brought back old friend Morgan Moses in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. The 2014 third-round pick spent the 2021 season with the Jets before joining the Ravens on a multi-year deal.

Fixing the offensive line was the Jets’ primary need heading into the offseason. GM Joe Douglas faced intense criticism for ignoring the o-line last offseason, and Rodgers wound up suffering a season-ending Achilles tear minutes into his Jets debut after taking a sack.
With Moses and Smith now anchoring the edges of the offensive line, it’s safe to say that Douglas achieved his main offseason goal. If Rodgers can stay healthy, the Jets should emerge as a bonafide Super Bowl contender in 2024.
The 33-year-old Smith has been named to eight Pro Bowls. He is a two-time First-team All-Pro and three-time Second-team All-Pro who was named to the 2010s All-Decade Team.
