BREAKING: New England Patriots Release Veteran WR Julian Edelman

Julian Edelman needs a new team.

On Monday, the New England Patriots released the veteran WR with a failed physical designation.

Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reported last week that Edelman was going to try to play in 2021, but complications with his knee makes it unlikely he can make it through the entire season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that his release from the Patriots “is a technicality as part of a retirement.”

While Julian Edelman showed up on the NFL transaction wire today as having his contract terminated by the Patriots, the expectation is that it is a technicality as part of a retirement, per @MikeReiss.

Edelman was limited to six games in 2020. 

In 2020, Edelman appeared in six games for the Patriots and caught 21 passes for 315 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also rushed twice for 22 yards.
