Britt Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2022 after a drunk driving incident ahead of Super Bowl LV.
He just received a break of a lifetime.
On Friday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson shortened the prison sentence of former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid for a drunken driving crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl.
The governor converted the remainder of Reid’s three-year prison sentence to house arrest, which is subject to several conditions.
The 38-year-old Reid will be under house arrest until Oct. 31, 2025, according to Parson’s office. Reid previously pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of driving while intoxicated, causing serious injury, for the February 2021 crash. He admitted he had been drinking and going 18 mph over the posted speed limit of 65 mph. He also had a blood alcohol content of .113, which is five points over the legal limit.
Ariel Young, who was 5-years-old at the time, was seriously injured and suffered a traumatic brain injury, and was in a coma for 11 days.

It should be noted that Parson is a longtime Chiefs season ticket-holder holder who celebrated with the team at its recent Super Bowl victory parade in Kansas City.
It was asked why Parson would commute the sentence and Johnathan Shiflett, a spokesman for Parson’s office, responded in a statement Friday: “Mr. Reid has completed his alcohol abuse treatment program and has served more prison time than most individuals convicted of similar offenses.”
The timing of this comes less than a month after the Chiefs won a second consecutive Super Bowl led by Andy Reid.
