The NFL Draft just received another major shakeup, as the Philadelphia Eagles and the New Orleans Saints have given us our latest blockbuster deal from the 2022 NFL offseason.
No big name players are changing teams in this one, but it’s still a very intriguing deal that appears to paint a clear picture of each team’s plans going forward. The trade sees the Eagles give up their 16th and 19th overall picks in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft, along with their sixth-rounder (194th overall) in exchange for the Saints’ 18th overall pick, and their third- and seventh-rounders in 2022, as well as their first-rounder in 2023, and their second-rounder in 2024.
What’s each team’s motive behind this deal, you ask? For the Saints, it appears as though they could have a couple of key players on their radar (a quarterback, perhaps), with hopes of landing them both in this year’s draft. It is also possible that they could be loading up on 2022 picks, in case they feel the need to move up in the first round and get the quarterback of their choosing.
As for the Eagles, it’s clear that they want to give Jalen Hurts one more year to prove himself. If he doesn’t appear to be the franchise quarterback they’re looking for, Philly will have two first round picks in what is expected to be a quarterback-heavy 2024 draft.
The Eagles previously had three first-round picks in this year’s draft (15, 16 and 19) thanks to last year’s deals with Miami (so that they could move up and draft Jaylen Waddle) and Indianapolis (as part of the Carson Wentz deal). They still have two after this deal, along with another two in 2024.

If they can make good use of all this draft ammo over the next few years, the future would be incredibly bright in the City of Brotherly Love.
