Saints QB Drew Brees has a torn ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand and is expected to undergo surgery and will likely be out six weeks depending on how the recovery goes.
The veteran Saints passer injured his thumb in the first quarter of Sunday’s game when his hand collided with the hand of Rams DT Aaron Donald. He would be replaced by Teddy Bridgewater and not return to the game.
Bridgewater is likely to be the starter until Brees’ eventual return.
