BREAKING: Dallas Cowboys To Officially Part Ways With Coach Jason Garrett

There was some speculation swirling earlier, but now it’s finally official. The Dallas Cowboys have fired head coach Jason Garrett.

ESPN’s Ed Werder reported the official news on his Twitter account:

Breaking: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and executive vice president Stephen Jones have decided that Jason Garrett will not be part of the organization moving forward, a source tells @WerderEdESPN. pic.twitter.com/zXf4n1I8kc

Jason Garrett was named the head coach of the Cowboys midway through the 2010 NFL season. He was originally hired as the team’s offensive coordinator back in 2007.

In his 10 seasons as the Cowboys’ head coach, Garrett compiled an 85-67 regular season record. He reached the postseason three times, going 2-3 in his five playoff contests. The Cowboys never made it further than the NFC Divisional Round during his tenure.

Dallas finished the 2019 season with a disappointing 8-8 record, finishing second in the NFC East and missing out on the playoffs.

The Cowboys will now enter a new decade in search of a new head coach to hopefully lead this team to their first Super Bowl since the 1995 season. Urban Meyer and Lincoln Riley are among the names to be rumored as possible replacements for Garrett.
