Terrible news for the defending champions, as they have just lost one of their most important offensive playmakers for the remainder of the season.
It was originally reported that Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin had suffered an MCL sprain. The expected recovery timeline was approximately three weeks, meaning Godwin was supposed to be back in time for the postseason…
Unfortunately, the MRI has come back on Godwin’s knee and it’s a lot worse that they had imagined. Via Adam Schefter:
In addition to the MCL issue, the tests also found that Godwin had suffered a torn ACL. That means he’ll miss the rest of the season, including the playoffs. It’s a terrible update for the Bucs after they had received some promising news on the conditions of Godwin, Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette earlier this morning.
Godwin was a big part of the Bucs’ offense, recording 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns through 14 contests this season. He’s set to become a free agent after the season. And with the Bucs already hard-pressed to find the available cap room for him, this injury could give them even more incentive to allow him to test the open market.
