Looks like Chris Godwin won’t be playing on the franchise tag after all.
Reports are coming in that the star wide receiver and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have agreed to a three-year, $60-million deal. That includes $40-million guaranteed.
It’s a huge deal for Godwin, making him the fourth-highest-paid wideout in the NFL — tied with Amari Cooper and Mike Williams, and trailing only DeAndre Hopkins, Davante Adams and Keenan Allen.
Godwin is coming off a torn ACL he suffered late in the season, so it’s good to see he was able to secure a multi-year extension this offseason, rather than playing on another franchise tag.
In 14 games last season, Godwin recorded a career-high 98 receptions, along with 1,103 yards and five touchdowns. No word yet on whether or not he’ll be ready by the start of the season.
