Alex Smith is retiring from the NFL.
He dropped the news on Monday, via Instagram:
Smith engineered a remarkable comeback last season following a devastating leg injury, and his hard work paid off after he was named the Comeback Player of the Year. Last season, Smith led Washington to a 5-1 record while throwing for 1582 yards and a 6:8 TD: INT ratio across six starts in eight games.
The veteran passer started 167-of-174 games in his 16-year career, going 3,250-of-5,193 passing (62.6%) for 35,650 yards, 199 touchdowns, 109 interceptions, and a passer rating of 86.9.
