Alex Smith was easily the NFL’s best feel-good story of 2020, as he returned from a career- and life-threatening leg injury to help lead the Washington Football Club to an NFC East title and a very unlikely postseason berth.
Sadly, it’s looking like that will be the final chapter of Smith’s tenure in D.C. as the quarterback and the team are expected to part ways in the coming days, according to the NFL Networks’ Ian Rapoport:
Rapoport also notes that Smith still wants to play. He’ll be 37-years-old when the 2021 season begins in September. He posted a 5-1 record in his six starts last year, finishing with 1,582 yards and six touchdowns against eight interceptions.
