Back in December 2023, the Los Angeles Chargers fired coach Brandon Staley.
The Ohio native was in charge of the Bolts for almost three seasons, holding a 24-25 record as head coach. His best NFL tenure came in his lone season with the Rams in 2020 as their defensive coordinator.
It appears he will be headed back to that position.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reported Monday that coach Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers have interviewed former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley for their vacant defensive coordinator position.
The 49ers have completed interviews with former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley and 49ers defensive passing game specialist Nick Sorensen, Shanahan told Maiocco.

The team is expected to meet with two more candidates outside of the organization, with interviews and the search expected to “finish it all up this week.”
The 49ers are replacing Steve Wilks, who was fired earlier this month after only one season as defensive coordinator.
Aside from being a defensive coordinator and head coach, Staley’s only other NFL experience is as the outside linebackers coach with Chicago (2017-18) and Denver (2019).
