San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is trying his best to get under the skin of Philadelphia Eagles players ahead of the Super Bowl.
Aiyuk was on the losing end when his team played Philly in the NFC Championship Game in January but doesn’t feel like they have what it takes to put one over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Speaking on TheSFNiners YouTube show this week, the WR declared the Chiefs will expose the Eagles’ vaunted defense, lamenting over the fact that the Niners weren’t able to because of the injury to Brock Purdy early in their last meeting.
“I don’t know fully about that defense,” he said (H/T NFL.com). “They talk about them being a good defense. I’m not too sure. I think this Kansas City pass game will expose what we thought we were going to be able to expose before some unfortunate circumstances. We’ll see. But like I said, you got to get lucky to win a Super Bowl. And they just got extremely lucky last week.”
Aiyuk also claimed that, were he able to bet on the game, he would wager everything he owns on the Chiefs.
The Eagles Respond
Aiyuk’s comments have gotten responses from some Eagles players.

“I just think that’s bad sportsmanship,” cornerback Darius Slay shot back via reporters during the teams’ media appearances on Monday. “They did a lot of talking, about physicality and all this kind of stuff. Now they want to blame something. They weren’t complaining when they were 8-0 (with Purdy), so I don’t know what they’re complaining about now.”
“Everybody’s entitled to their opinion,” Haason Reddick said. “We’re not worried about how anybody feels.”
Of course, Aiyuk’s claims are probably just a result of his being salty over the loss. It’s easy to understand why the 49ers would feel robbed of an opportunity given the circumstances stemming from the game. But it’s hard to believe the Niners WR would bet everything against Philly if he could; he’s not that naive.
