The poor social media team for the Las Vegas Raiders have taken a bunch of heat over a tweet that was sent out following Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin being convicted of murdering George Floyd.
The tweet sent by the team’s official account on Tuesday said, “I CAN BREATHE 4-20-21.” As you already know, Floyd was heard on video saying “I can’t breathe” more than 20 times as former officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes and killing him.
Raiders owner Mark Davis soon released a statement and took blame for the tweet.
“That’s my tweet. That was me. I don’t want anyone in the organization taking heat. I take full responsibility for that.”
Davis said the “I Can Breathe” wording came from George Floyd’s brother Philonise, who said “Today, we are able to breathe again.”
Davis added: “If I offended the family, then I’m deeply, deeply disappointed.”
