The New England Patriots have a heavy decision to make this offseason as Tom Brady is set to be a free agent and rumors suggest he might not come back for the 2020 season. Brady has already stated he is coming back to play, but we just don’t know where he might be playing.
Many have speculated that he might play for the Chargers in their new stadium or even the Raiders in their new one as they move to Las Vegas.
Bill Speros of the Boston Herald is suggesting that if Brady is not brought back to the team in 2020, then the franchise needs to tank next season to get Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
“If the Patriots are not going to contend for a Super Bowl with Brady as their QB next season, the worst possible scenario would be contending for a playoff spot with some stiff like Rivers or Dalton as their QB. We had another one-and-done this season. They are not fun.
The NFL is anchored in mediocrity. The salary cap and draft exist in part to help bad teams get better and prevent good teams from staying that way. That structure makes the Patriots Score of Supremacy all the more incredible.
No one wants mediocrity in Foxboro. With just one putrid season, the Patriots could position themselves to get a franchise QB in Lawrence who could lead them through another dynastic decade.”
The last time the Patriots had the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, the team selected Drew Bledsoe. Of course, he would end up getting injured at one point and losing his starting job forever to Tom Brady.
