It can be a tough life for National Football League players who are not that recognizable by fans and security.
Standing 5-foot-7 and checking in at 156 pounds, rookie kicker Blake Grupe doesn’t look much like the rest of his New Orleans Saints teammates and that became a problem on Sunday.
Grupe had a day at the Caesars Superdome he won’t soon forget as he got the nod to try the game-winning field goal as time expired. However, that is just one part of the three-step process that Grupe reflected on after the game.
Grupe had several run-ins with security as he retold on Twitter. He revealed he was approached by venue security while taking the field for pregame warmups Sunday morning, having shown up without credentials.
Even after the victory, security stopped him at the players’ exit while mistaking him for a rogue fan.
“Step 1: get questioned walking onto the field pregame for not having credentials Step 2: hit a game-winner Step 3: get stopped by security thinking I was a fan when trying to walk out the player exit,” Grupe wrote. “Stay humble. Thankful. Great team win! @Saints #WHODAT.”

The 24-year-old undrafted rookie showed his coolness under pressure at the end of Sunday’s game by kicking a 31-yard game-winning field goal as time expired to help the Saints get the 26-24 win.
Grupe has been battling Wil Lutz for the starting kicker spot all summer and this latest kick should help him a lot.
