Football fans are having a field day laughing at the peculiar press conference held by the attorney defending Xaviar Babudar, the Kansas City Chiefs superfan known as “ChiefsAholic.”
On Wednesday, Babudar pleaded guilty to charges on multiple bank robberies, per Elizabeth Merrill and David Purdum of ESPN. Babudar admitted that he committed 11 different bank robberies over seven states, and he faces a maximum of 50 years in prison.
Matthew Merryman, the attorney representing Babudar, added another layer of bizarreness to this entire saga with his strange press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Though Merryman kept a straight and serious face during the presser, fans couldn’t help but laugh at his many football-related jokes while speaking to reporters. P.J. Green of FOX4 in Kansas City shared the now-viral clip of Merryman’s comments.
Among the football-related jokes that were made during the presser:
-“The government has been blitzing, and Xaviar’s pocket was collapsing.”
-“We know that he doesn’t give up. We know that if he stumbled, and he fell, he didn’t let his knee touch the ground.”

Football fans just couldn’t help but poke fun at the awkward press conference held by Merryman:
If you’ll allow us to throw in one more football pun here, we’ll simply state that Merryman “fumbled” with his attempt to defend his client during the presser here. But because the legal matter isn’t done in court, let’s go ahead and say that it’s only third down for Merryman and ChiefsAholic.
Babudar was arrested by authorities in Dec. 2022 but went on the run in March 2023 after being released on bond. He was apprehended in Sacramento, California again in July.
