Billy Price’s career has not gone according to plan. And he now finds himself searching for work after being cut by his latest team, the New Orleans Saints.
Price was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft. But after three lackluster seasons from the center, the team declined his option following the 2020 campaign.
He spent the 2021 season with the New York Giants, starting in 15 games and allowing 24 quarterback pressures and two sacks. But the G-Men decided that they had seen enough as well, refusing to keep him onboard following the season. He began 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad before being signed by the Arizona Cardinals midseason to replace the injured Rodney Hudson.
On June 15 of this offseason, he joined the New Orleans Saints, but that didn’t last long. On Thursday, the team announced that they were releasing Price with a “non-football injury designation.”
According to PFF, Price’s best season was in 2021, when he allowed 2 sacks and took five penalties while garnering a lousy 62.3 grade — which is not what you’d expect from a highly-touted first-round pick out of Ohio State.
It’ll be interesting to see which team takes a chance on Price next. At 27-years-old, there’s still time for him to turn things around and have a successful career in the NFL, if he can stay healthy.
